Chapter 1
1. What problems or conflicts are presented in chapter one? Tao needing to find a rabbit is an obvious one;
identify at least two more.
2. Predict the resolution of each conflict.

1.Tao was suppose to find food for his "family" but he felt bad to kill an inecient animal which was a wolf
and a mice i think.
2. well he brought the mice and i guess he might as well kill the wolf even though he doesn't want to.

Chapter 2
1.What two important events happen in this chapter?

1.Tao helped the wolf dog taking out a needle out of its jaw.

Chapter 3
1. What do Tao and Ram learn to do together?

2. What decision does Tao tell Volt?

3. Look at Tao's decisions and actions from Volt's perspective. Pretend you are Volt. Write a first person

explaining how you feel.

1.one of them was a horse the other one was Ram.
2.Ram was easier because he didn't need to draw the (perfect) head,eyes,ears,legs,and more.

3. Graybeard describes Volt differently than we have. What aspects of Volt's character is Graybeard acknowledging?

1.Greybeard notice that he been hunting with the wolf dog and that he hunts in the slough.
2.Greybeard doesn't know about the drawing.
3.He's a good person but he dreams lots about spirits and demons.

Chapter 7
Write your reaction to the last paragraph in the chapter. Do you agree or disagree with Graybeard? Is what he says true for those times, but not now? Or, is the reverse true: was it not true then, but true now?

1.I agree with greybeard because its taboo.Its true back then but now its not true.

Chapter 8
An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow
their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today.
What situation did you imagine?

In the situation you imagined, should the person follow his or her dreams or should they follow society's rules? Give your opinion.

1.If a person wants to sing but that person failed, they say that this person isn't meant for singing so the person feels bad.
2.They should still follow the persons dream because they could try harder and succeed.

Why do you think Graybeard changed his mind?
What does this tell you about his character?

1.He wanted to draw,so Greybeard taught him, because Greybeard didn't want Tao to give up his dreams to become a "drawer."
2.Greybeard was a willing, caring, and loving character to let Tao follow his dreams even if it was a taboo for his religion.

2.He was surrounded by "monsters" and he was no longer safe. The "monsters" took Ram away into the forest but
Tao was still safe.

1.yes because he can teach almost everything in one day.
2.I would like to be taught how to draw with Greybeard because i don't even know how to draw at all.

Chapter 12
1. Name some of the ingredients used to make paint. Which surprised you most?
2. Why is Tao afraid at the end of the chapter?

1.animal fat, fish oil, animal blood, eggs yoke, and honey.
2.Greybeard was afraid he was going to die.

Chapter 13
1. Even if Ram had succeeded in hunting the deer, do you think it was a good idea of Tao's to "show off" his dog's ability to hunt? Explain.
2. Predict what will happen next. If you've read ahead, invent an alternate scene.

1.No because Volt still hate wolf dogs because it is still a demon creature towards him.
2.I think that Volt will punish Tao if Volt finds him.

1. Why does Tao cross the river?

1.Tao crossed the river to save Ram.
2.Greybeard says that he can't survive no longer and told Tao to replace him.
